The Team:
Colliers Project & Building Consultancy (PBC) is a multi-disciplinary UK and European consultancy with a dynamic, commercial outlook and close-knit team ethic, working within the property industry. The current growing Environmental Team is divided into three specialist services, Environmental Due Diligence, Floods & SUDS and Technical Services. The Environmental Team operates under a Service Line Head (SLH), who reports up to the Colliers PBC Leadership Team.
We are recruiting for a Technical Director of Environmental Technical Services to lead Phase II and project related technical work, working closely alongside the existing environmental SLH. In addition, as a Technical Director, you will work with the SLH to grow and develop the offering across all offices and the wider Colliers EMEA business.
The role will encompass a wide range of duties focusing on three key pillars – project delivery, leadership and team growth. Whilst the role will focus on leading the Technical Services Team and project delivery, the individual should also be comfortable taking a hands on approach and assisting in growing the service in a relatively untapped internal and external market.
Therefore, in addition to a proven track record of technical delivery, the individual should be market facing and be able to utilise their network to increase revenue within the team and attract potential candidates to join the business.

Main Duties and Responsibilities within the Environmental Services Team:
- Overall responsibility for the Environmental Technical Services Team including; service delivery, team management, work allocation and resourcing
- Mentoring team members, providing feedback on performance and conducting regular 1-2-1’s with team members
- Monthly financial reporting on Technical Services performance to Service Line Head
- Be aware of Employers Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) insurance requirements within the business and specific to the Technical Services Team regarding limitations to ‘manual’ handling work for EL and back to back requirements of sub-contractors we may use from time to time for PL
- Monitor and maintain adequate procedures to ensure insurance cover is in place for the Environmental Technical Services Team roles we are performing.
- Reviewing and maintaining adequate risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and any compliance when working within the requirements of the CDM regulations
- Liaising with in-house legal counsel to review appointments, contracts, reliance letters and the like to ensure adequacy and limit exposure / risk where necessary
- Monitoring and revising fee levels as required to ensure profitability of the Environmental Technical Services Team is maintained
- Monitoring efficiency of work and utilising sub consultants / internal resource where required within the Environmental Technical Services Team
- Recruitment of new hires within the Environmental Technical Services Team
Service delivery
- Advising clients on environmental liabilities and risk including land/groundwater contamination/ ground gas issues and other pertinent considerations such as sustainability, flooding, UXO etc
- Quoting Technical Environmental Services, including projects (ground investigations, remediation strategies, verification works)
- Writing and reviewing Phase II Ground Investigation Reports, Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments (human health, controlled waters and ground gas) and waste assessments to support planning applications
- Writing and reviewing technical due diligence reports (Phase 1), when required.
- Review of Health and Safety documentation prepared by the Technical Services Team
- Project manage wider planning deliverables including ecology, flooding, air, noise, transport.
- Liaise with site occupants, contractors and regulators
- Providing a first-class level of service and advice to help maintain a network of clients and ensure repeat business
- Applying technical knowledge in analysing problems and creating solutions
- Maintain a high level of understanding of relevant environmental regulations, legislation and assessment criteria
- Working with and supporting all business functions/service lines on technical environmental issues and providing solutions
- Overall responsibility for Technical Services report QA procedure and sign off
- Responsible for maintaining service line templates and document control
- Responsible for full cycle of projects including scoping, quoting, delivery, invoicing, debt control within the Technical Services Team
Business Development
- Cross selling to existing clients and promoting the Technical Services Team within the wider Colliers EMEA business
- Actively seeking new opportunities through own connections or networking activity
- Regular, strategic and proactive business development activity with support from internal resources
- Delivering and supporting pitches with the wider services
- Completing tenders where relevant
- Actively contributing content to the business wide marketing team
- Proven leadership capabilities
- Market facing, with proven Business Development experience and evidence of previously growing teams
- Extensive technical experience within property over a range of land uses and delivering complex environmental projects
- Ability to work in a pressured, deadline driven environment
- Organised and excellent communicator
- Proactive and highly motivated individual
- Team player
- UK Driving licence
- Masters Degree in environmental sciences, geology or similar (Preferred)
- Chartered environmentalist (CEnv), geologist (CGeol) or similar
